The Basic Plots in Literature. I really ought to be writing. Instead, I’m reading about writing. The previous link is about the 1/3/7/20 or 36 basic plots in literature. Pick one, and get to writing! Hermione Sue and the Prisoner of A. Cuaron, Chapter 9 My, this chapter was a long time coming. Judging by one of the references I made, it has been languishing in my fic folder for around four years. I doubt it will prove worth the wait, but hopefully it will still amuse some of you. yWriter5 - Free novel writing software to help you write a book. Thinking about trying this. It’s a novel building program that emphasizes writing scenes rather than chapters. It’s free to download. I’ve been organizing stuff into chapters, but I find myself cutting out chunks of what I’ve written and adding it to a “slush file” in case I want to use it later, or if I know I want to use it later but I’m not to that point yet. It’s interesting reading different approaches to writing. After I was having so much trouble with HPDD, I at some point started writing independent scenes…stuff I had already pictured in my head and wanted to use, but I didn’t know where yet. So I’m thinking this piece of software might work for me. Can’t download it just at the moment because I’m updating my copy of OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org, it’s a free word suite of programs similar to Microsoft Office AND will open Office files). But once that’s done, I think I’ll download this program and give it a test drive. Another site for writers. I’ve been working on HPDD today. Yes, that’s right, you heard me, today I have been working on my semi-abandoned story, Harry Potter and the Deadly Deception. I FINALLY had a brainstorm for the plot. In fact, I’ve written over 1,000 words of backstory for it today, and I now know how the story is going to end, and a good bit of what happens in the middle. I’m using some of what Jo laid out for us…but I’m going in a different direction with it. No horcruxes. Wish me luck. Keep your fingers crossed. By all means, do pray that my muse is kind and I don’t lose the momentum I’ve gathered. I also stumbled upon an interesting site: How to Write A Novel Using the Snowflake Method Interesting reading about the nuts and bolts of writing. I’ve definitely been a “seat-of-the-pants” writer up to now, which I think has been the main reason I’ve been bogged down for so long with this story. I had a good idea and started writing, and I didn’t think terribly far beyond that good idea. I’ve been taking notes as I wrote, but they weren’t very well organized, and I’ve lost many of the ideas I had for this story because I didn’t write them down, so I forgot about them when real life got in the way (like having a baby). That is all. Back to work. ETA: Have reached the point of brain exhaustion for the evening. Somehow, I feel like I may wind up writing 3 stories. The one I’m working on, the one that comes after it, and a prequel dating back a thousand years. I’ll stick with HPDD for now. Almost 800 words written on Hermione Sue and the Prisoner of A. Cuaron tonight. I don’t remember if I mentioned it in my last post, but I’d forgotten just how much fun it was to poke fun at PoA, and to poke fun at ships in general, though I’ll probably wind up taking some heat for that. An excerpt from tonight: “Now, where would I go if I were Hermione and Ron?”Harry wondered. His friends hadn’t been in the sweet shop, as he’d expected. They usually bought him a present, after all. Then a thought occurred to him. “Gee, there’s a madman on the loose. I bet they went to the shrieking shack by themselves. After all, Hermione is the brightest witch of our age, she can handle it if Black decides to attack them while they’re literally out in the middle of nowhere with no adult supervision.” BTW, I made this post with Windows Live Writer… just checking to see if it is has any advantages over Semagic (other than the fact that it was really easy to tell it to post to Wordpress). I wrote more than 800 words on a chapter of Hermione Sue and the Prisoner of A. Cuaron tonight. Yay, me. I also sent a completed chapter to my beta. I had apparently finished it some time ago and then forgot about it. It’s a little strange to be working on that story…. The movie came out in 2004, here it is 5 years and 3 movies later (well, soon, anyway). Hopefully there are people out there who will still be amused by my poking fun at all the things I hated about the 3rd movie. I also thought about my song lyric prompt fic for the HG_Silver lining challenge, and last night I bugged DH for some ideas for HPDD, but to no avail (other than a cracky theory he came up with). And I looked at the unfinished bits again. test post attempting to test the LJ crossposter from WP |
